Growing a Healthy Church, Part 6

Goals of a Healthy church – 2 Thessalonians
  1. That our faith will grow exceedingly!
  2. To glorify Jesus Christ by how they live!

What Grows our Faith?

  1. The Word of God helps grow our faith
    • “Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” – 1 Peter 2:1-3
    • “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17
  2. Enduring persecution grows your faith – 2 Thess. 1:4
  3. Believing the Word of God that God will make all things right in the end
    1. We can be patient through suffering and pain by knowing that he will take care of us now and in the future! Will punish the evil!
      1. 2 Thess. 1:4-10

Benefits of a growing faith

  1. Growing in faith helps us to have a right understanding of giving
    • “We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;” – 2 Thess 1:3
  • You please God!
    • “But without faith it isimpossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”  11:6
  • God’s power will work through your faith!
    • “Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the wok of faith and power.” – 2 Thess. 1:11

Faith in 2 Chronicles 20:1-30

  • 4 ways that Jehoshaphat responded to his enemies (20:3-13)
  1. He feared, He sought God, He fasted

He/Judah prayed

  • The Prayer (20:5-13) that recognized…
  1. God’s sovereignty, covenant with His people, presence, and goodness
  • God’s response: have faith, don’t be afraid!
  • Their response = switch from fear to worship!
